One killed, 6 injured in 2 traffic accidents north of Cairo

One person was killed and six injured in two separate car accidents on a motorway in the Beheira Governorate, north of Cairo.

Security sources said the first accident took place near Wadi al-Natroun when two private cars collided, leading to the death of one of the drivers.

The second accident, according to the sources, occurred on the desert road leading to Cairo. They said two private cars hit a passenger bus from the back when the latter slowed down. Six people were injured.

Police reports of the accidents have been filed and prosecution services will start investigations.

Traffic accidents rank second in mortality causes in Egypt annually. An 2010 government report revealed that 18 Egyptians died daily in 2009 in traffic accidents.

Surging rates are usually attributed to poor road quality, violations of traffic rules and drug addiction among truckers.
