Oscars media campaign costs $150 million

Preparations are under way for the 87th Oscars ceremony of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which will be held on 22 February.

The academy continues its promotional campaign for this year's Oscars at a cost of US$150 million, initiated by the American cinema city during the last quarter of 2014, until the date of the ceremony. The campaign only cost $100 million in 2013

Experts estimated the cost of the ceremony at more than $400 million this year, amid fears of a lower views compared to last year which was presented by Ellen DeGeneres who enjoys higher popularity than this year's presenter, comedian Neil Patrick Harris.

Harris followers on Twitter are only 11 million, while DeGeneres followers amount to 29 million.

Hollywood, where the annual ceremony of the Oscars is held in the Kodak Theatre, witnesses several rituals on the same occasion every year such as selling statues and memorabilia resembling the Oscar statue and certain types of food.
