Palestinian cause part of Egyptians’ priorities, says FM

Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy has stressed Egypt is committed to the Palestinian cause during a diplomatic visit to the West Bank.

The Egyptian official held press conference on Monday at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

Fahmy said he came to deliver two messages. The first one he delivered from interim President Adly Mansour to express his thanks to the Palestinians for their stance on recent events in Egypt.

The second, Fahmy added, came from the Egyptian people to express that the Palestinian cause is part of Egyptians’ priorities.

It is a right of the Palestinians to establish a free, independent state according to 1967 borders, he added.

Fahmy arrived on Monday in Ramallah on board a Jordanian helicopter.

He will meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and Palestinian reconciliation. The two leaders will also reportedly discuss developments in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

On arrival, Fahmy placed flowers on the tomb of deceased President Yasser Arafat. He was received by al-Tayyeb Abdel Rahim, secretary general of the Palestinian presidency, and Riyad al-Malky, his Palestinian counterpart.
