Party leader calls for prosecuting former interior minister

Socialist Popular Alliance Deputy Chairman, Medhat al-Zahed, called for prosecuting the former Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim over denying that the police had used birdshot to confront a peaceful protest, during which activist Shaimaa al-Sabbagh was killed last January. The incident proves the need to restructure the Interior Ministry, Zahed said.

The Protest Law gives a legal cover to incidents like the killing of Sabbagh, he added, calling for amending the legislation in line with the instructions of the National Council for Human Rights.

The real murderer has only been found thanks to the continued pressure of political forces, he said.
