Party leaders, revolution youth predict more protests in interim period

Several party and revolution youth group leaders have said they expect calls for Friday protests in Tahrir Square to continue, while others said they will subside after parliamentary and presidential elections.

Wafd Party President Al-Sayed al-Badawy said Tahrir protests will stop when the revolution's goals have been achieved. He said this will only be possible after the elections.

Hussein Abdel Razeq, a senior member of the Tagammu Party, said the protests are likely to continue throughout the transitional period until the political situation stabilizes.

Ahmed Drag, assistant general coordinator for the National Association for Change, also said the suspension of protests is dependent on progress toward certain goals of the revolution.

He said leaders from the dissolved National Democratic Party still occupy important positions, which causes revolutionary groups to worry. Drag said he expects protests to continue for at least five years.

Mohamed al-Saeed, a member of a revolutionary youth coalition, said they will stop protests when they feel the country is on the right path and that there are no attempts to sabotage the revolution.

Essam al-Sherif, general coordinator for the Free Front for Peaceful Change, said calls for protests will stop when the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and the government announce a timeline for implementing the revolution's demands.
