Presidential election’s results to be declared Tuesday: PEC

Presidential Election Commission (PEC) Secretary General Abdel Aziz Salman said the commission will declare the final results of 2014 presidential elections on Tuesday at 7pm at the headquarters of the commission, located in Nasr City.

Presidential candidates Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Hamdeen Sabbahi were rivals during the elections. Number of eligible voters reached 53,909,306.

In a statement on Sunday, the commission also announced the rejection of appeals by Sabbahi against the results as well as extension of voting for a third day.

Salman said the commission concluded checking the appeal by Sabbahi against head of the commission in a session on Sunday that lasted for seven hours and decided to reject it.

Tareq Negeida, legal advisor of the Sabbahi campaign filed the challenge on Friday against several decisions regarding counting process and called for excluding votes cast on the third day.

Preliminary results showed success of Sisi by 96.9 percent, while Sabbahi got 3.1 percent. Both candidates earlier refused to extend the voting process for a third day but Sabbahi’s campaign consequently decided withdrawal of its representatives from polling stations.
