Protesters block Arish highway over kidnapping

Arish residents blocked the Arish-Rafah international highway in Sinai with bricks and stones on Thursday in protest of a woman's suspected kidnapping.

Protesters said that a 30-year-old woman went by taxi to run errands in Arish on Wednesday but did not return. They demanded that security services search for her and quickly bring her back.

Sheikh Mahdi Abu Arada, one of the protesters, said the demonstration will escalate unless security forces focus on the case.

The protesters said that the missing woman and her family do not have problems with any other families in the area.

Road blockages have become a common form of protest. On 15 October, hundreds of citizens blocked the Arish-Rafah highway to demand the arrest of the suspects behind the kidnapping of a girl.
