Public transport workers begin strike

Public Transport Authority workers are starting a strike on Sunday in 28 terminals in Cairo and Giza to demand allowances equal to those of the workers of the subway and the railway. They also request a reduction of salary gaps among workers of the authority.

They accuse the prime minister, the investment minister and the governor of Cairo of ignoring their legitimate demands.

“I have a family of four and I've been working for over 10 years and my salary is only LE650,” said Abdel Khalek Hilmy.

“The government knows very well what we want,” said Tarek al-Beheiry, vice president of the workers’ union. “Ignoring us will only make things worse.”
