Road accident hampers traffic on Cairo-Alexandria road

A truck carrying tons of molasses for use in the sugar industry overturned on the Alexandria-Cairo desert road on Tuesday, causing severe traffic congestion for several hours. No casualties were reported.

The truck overturned at the 57th kilometer marker en route to Alexandria. Amriya police station was notified.

According to an investigatory report on the incident, the driver lost control of the vehicle, then fled the area following the accident.

The leaked molasses was cleaned off the road in order for traffic to continue as usual.

A police report was filed and the prosecution notified to conduct investigations.
