Ruling military council calls on Egyptians to support policemen

Policemen must be supported in protecting Egypt’s internal security, said Mamdouh Shahin, a member of the ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF).

Shahin said that security will not be adequate without everyone's cooperation.

In a phone call on Saturday to a state TV talkshow, Shahin said that since the outbreak of the 25 January revolution, the SCAF has reassured that the armed forces have not and will not use force against the people. He also added that some people practice thuggery and ignite sectarian strife without considering the country’s critical circumstances.

Shahin stressed that there should be punctuality to encourage investments and economic development.

He also called on citizens to apprehend criminals and take them to the nearest police station or to the military police.

Finally, he pointed out that the armed forces have provided the police with 50,000 soldiers, has always played a role in developing projects such as hospitals and bridges, and that cooperation between the police and the army existed even before the revolution.
