Sabbahi: SCAF-Brotherhood conflict may be in people’s best interest

The current dispute between the Muslim Brotherhood and the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces may be in the best interest of the people, said presidential hopeful Hamdeen Sabbahi.

Sabbahi made the statement during his visit to the Beni Suef diocese on Tuesday, where he was greeted by Bishop Gabriel, bishop of the Holy Diocese of Beni Suef and Father Francis Farid, undersecretary of the Beni Suef diocese.

During the visit, Sabbahi offered his condolences on the death of Pope Shenouda III, praising his patriotism as well his wishes for a new pope of Shenouda’s stature.

Sabbahi said he did not believe religious slogans and votes based on religion would have any impact during the upcoming presidential elections after what he described as the failure of Islamists in Parliament.

He went on to say that people want action, not slogans, and that the current dispute between the Freedom and Justice Party and the SCAF may be in the best interest of the people.
