Saudi Embassy in Cairo urges citizens to avoid protest areas

The Saudi Embassy in Cairo on Monday urged Saudi citizens based in Cairo to avoid areas where protests are taking place in Cairo and other governorates.

The embassy paid for an advertisement in Egypt’s state-run Al-Ahram newspaper, which advised Saudis to be careful not to approach such areas in order to keep safe.

Egypt has been witnessing a wave of protests for multiple causes since the breakout of the January uprising, which ousted former President Hosni Mubarak, one of Saudi Arabia’s closest allies.

A demonstration was staged on Friday in front of the Israeli Embassy in Giza, meters away from the Saudi Embassy.

Protesters were voicing rage over the killing of six Egyptian military and security personnel in an Israeli border raid on Thursday.
