Sayed al-Badawy banned from international travel

Cairo Airport security authorities banned Wafd Party Head Al-Sayed al-Badawy from leaving the country on Saturday in accordance with a previous decision made by former Prosecutor General Talaat Abdallah.

Badawy was on his way to Sudan and was accompanied by a group of the party leading members. They were traveling to meet with Sudani President Omar al-Bashir and members of the ruling National Congress Party.

“I was surprised by the decision to ban me from travelling. I didn’t know about it, especially since I did not face any charges and was not summoned by the former Prosecutor General for interrogation,” Badawy told al-Masry al-Youm.

He contacted the current prosecutor general's office, which confirmed that the decision banning Badawy from travel would be reviewed.

Badawy said he would resume his trip on Sunday evening after the decision is overturned.
