SCAF to devote army planes to transport election supervisors

The head of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, approved the use of military planes for carrying ballot boxes and judges to remote areas during the election.

The step is part of the army’s efforts to secure the electoral process, the first stage of which kicked off Monday morning

Tantawi also ordered legal procedures to be taken against an employee at the polling station in Waili, Cairo, who had started the polling process before the supervising judge arrived.

Judge Islam al-Mahdy had arrived to the polling station number 347 in al-Qubba al-Senawiya school in Waili in order to merge it with another station because a supervising judge was absent. Upon arrival, Mahdy discovered that one employee had started taking votes prematurely, an irregularity which prompted him to cancel the voting process.
