Scuffles with security injure 7 in Assiut

Qousiya constituency in the Upper Egyptian province of Assiut has seen violent clashes between security forces and candidates' supporters, leading to the injury of seven persons.

The police used tear gas and live ammunition to disperse rioters in front of a polling station located at a grainary. Security cut off the electricity supply for Qousiya and a number of near-by villages. Both sides exchanged fire as well as throwing stones.

Medical sources, meanwhile, announced that a number of protestors suffered bruises and some had fainted. The injured persons were hospitalized at Qousiya's public hospital

Security authorities cordoned off Qousiya, along with other electoral hotspots such as Dayrout, Abu Teeg and Fatah, where election results are yet to be declared.

Vote counting centers also witnessed protests by thousands of citizens, with security firing warning shots.
