Sisi responds to calls for amending financial guardianship law

The head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Dialogue Mahmoud Fawzy on Wednesday said that there is consensus at the National Dialogue on three basic laws, which will be fundamental amendments to the financial guardianship law.

During the activities of the National Youth Conference, in the presence of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Fawzy said that this comes in order to solve the problems facing many Egyptian families.

President Sisi stated “All that I can do, trust me I will do, whether it is within the constitution and the law, or we refer the issues to the parliament for discussion, be assured.”

Fawzy said: “We have a constitutional commitment to recommend issuing a law that allows the circulation of information, and it would be within the national strategy for human rights, and it is a subject of consensus, so it should be balanced.”

“There is also agreement to establish a non-discrimination commission, and all these issues will be raised to President Sisi.”

The National Dialogue sessions witnessed consensus from political forces, human rights organizations and public figures on the need to amend the law on financial guardianship.

The discussions referred to the TV series starring actress Mona Zaki “Under Guardianship” (Taht al-Wesaya), produced by Media Hub, and it reviewed the suffering of women in Egypt from this law which Zaki and the show’s produers shone a light on.

The National Council for Women honored Zaki and the producer, Mohamed al-Saadi, for the series, which drew attention to the need to amend the law.
