Smuggling attempt of three Ottoman pistols foiled at Cairo airport

Archaeological officials at Cairo International Airport stopped a Russian passenger attempting to smuggle three antique Ottoman pistols into Egypt.

Antiquities Minister Mohamed Ibrahim acknowledged the "seizures" in a press statement on Sunday, adding that the three confiscated pieces were handed over to the ministry.

Ahmed al-Rawy, head of the airport's archaeological unit, said the three pistols were made from wood, iron and copper, and filled with ornaments. Their length ranges from 47 to 50 cm.
