Suez Canal traffic sums 68 vessels carrying 5.2 mn tons: SCA

The Suez Canal Economic Zone’s (SCEZ) Chairman Mohab Mamish said that traffic passing through the Suez Canal in both directions summed 68 vessels with a total cargo tonnage of 5.2 million on Wednesday.

Twenty-seven ships passed through the canal coming from the north, carrying a total of 2.1 million tons, while 41 ships crossed from the south carrying 3.1 million tons, Mamish added in a statement.

The largest ship that crossed the canal on Wednesday coming from the north was the Liberian MSC ship carrying 199,000 tons of cargo, Mamish said, adding that it came from Morocco and was heading to the Sultanate of Oman.

Meanwhile, the Danish container MAASTICHT MAERSK coming from Malaysia and heading to the Netherlands topped the load lists of the convoys from the south, carrying 221,000 tons.

The canal witnessed the passage of 11 giant vessels carrying more than 150,000 tons of cargo on each ship.

The traffic passing through the Suez Canal in both directions summed 65 vessels with a total cargo tonnage of 5 million in April. Twenty-nine ships passed through the canal coming from the north, carrying a total of 1.8 million tons, while 36 ships crossed from the south carrying 3.2 million tons.
