Four police officers and five soldiers were injured during a security crackdown in Daqahliya Governorate on criminal hideouts.

There were clashes and an exchange of fire between suspects hiding inside reed huts in the Hamra area and security forces that lasted for five hours, leading to the injury of three officers and five soldiers from the Central Security Forces.

In a related incident, a car hit Captain Shady al-Masry from the Criminal Investigation Department while he was crossing the road near Manzala Lake. He was transferred to the hospital in critical condition.

Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin said Friday that security forces began a broad security crackdown Wednesday in the areas surrounding Manzala Lake in Daqahliya Governorate.

The campaign includes security forces from the public security sector, the Central Security Forces, and the security directorates of Port Said, Alexandria and Damietta.
