Transitional Justice Minister to act as justice minister until new one appointed

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb has instructed Transitional Justice Ibrahim al-Heneidy to temporarily lead the Justice Ministry until new a minister is appointed, according to a statement by Transitional Justice Ministry on Sunday.

Once the decision was issued, Heneidy gave instructions to hold a meeting today with the justice minister deputies to discuss the situation of the murder of three judges in North Sinai on Sunday.

The outcome of the meeting, according to the statement, will be publicly declared once it is over.

Former Justice Minister Mahfouz Saber’s resignation was accepted by Cabinet last week after the minister was criticized for suggesting that the son of a garbage collector would be unworthy to serve as a judge. The remarks caused a public uproar and accused the judge of classism. The judge responded saying his job was to uphold the Constitution, though he disagreed with the concept equal opportunity for people with different backgrounds and stood by his remarks.
