Two Tahrir sit-in protesters attacked

Unidentified assailants attacked two protesters participating in a sit-in on Wednesday evening, the latest in a string of violence against demonstrators in Tahrir Square.

Mohamed al-Masry, 19, and Ahmed Tork, 18, were leaving a restaurant on Mohamed Mahmoud Street when they were allegedly assaulted with bladed weapons before their attackers escaped in a grey vehicle.

Both protesters were taken to Ahmed Maher Hospital in Sayyeda Zeinab.

Another protester, April 6 Youth Movement activist Mohannad Samir was critically injured when shot with birdshot in the head Monday in the square. Samir was taken off a ventilator when his condition improved Wednesday, a doctor at the same hospital said.

Investigations are still being conducted into Samir's attack and there have been conflicting reports on the findings and circumstances surrounding the shooting.
