Unrest causes Cairo airport arrivals to drop

Renewed unrest in downtown Cairo and other parts of the country has resulted in a 25–30 percent  drop in arrivals at Cairo International Airport, authorities said Wednesday.

The events in Tahrir had a direct impact on air traffic, the airport's director, Ahmed Hafez, said in a statement to reporters. He added that some companies have changed their schedules or merged flights due to cancellations and decreased demand for transit to Cairo.

However, this week has also seen an increase in foreign journalists arriving to cover the clashes, Hafez said.
