US firms to export 500 tons of poultry thighs to Egypt

The Supply Ministry announced on Saturday that US firms won a tender to supply 500 tons of frozen poultry thighs to Egypt.

Twelve American and European companies competed for the tender and selection was in accordance with Egyptian standard specifications, the ministry added.

Vice President of the General Authority for Supply Commodities, Mamdouh Abdel Fattah, told Al-Masry Al-Youm the conditions of the tender include that the age of the poultry should not exceed 8 weeks and should be fed vegetables free from antibiotics, to maintain the health of the citizens.

The poultry would also be slaughtered in accordance to Islamic Sharia, he pointed out.

The deal aims to contribute to offering goods at reduced prices from the end of November, he said, pointing out that the price of the American imported poultry thighs is 30 percent lower than domestic thighs.
