Wave of cold, rainy weather hits Egypt on Monday

The Egyptian Meteorology Authority (EMA) warned of a depression hitting the country on Monday, leading to drop in temperatures in most areas and rain of varying intensities from north of the country to Greater Cairo.

Winds will be active in some areas, increasing the coldness and leading to the disruption of maritime navigation in the Mediterranean Sea.

The EMA forecasts that cold weather will prevail during the day in Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coasts and northern Upper Egypt, growing warmer in South Sinai and southern Upper Egypt, and very cold at night and in the early morning across most parts of the nation.

Monday’s expected temperatures:

  • Cairo, the New Administrative Capital, and Alexandria: 16C
  • Minya, and Assiut: 19C
  • Sharm, el-Sheikh, Hurghada, and Luxor: 21C

Weather maps revealed moderate to heavy rain falling on areas of the northern coasts and northern Lower Egypt at intermittent intervals.

There are chances of moderate rainfall in areas of southern Lower Egypt and the Suez Canal cities, extending lightly to parts of Greater Cairo and central Sinai at intermittent periods.

Satellites revealed wind activity in areas of Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coasts, South Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt at intermittent intervals.

The EMA explained that the Mediterranean Sea will be turbulent, with waves ranging from three to four meters high with northwestern winds.
