What are Mohamed Salah’s chances of winning the European Golden Shoe?

Egyptian international Mohamed Salah’s chances of winning the 2025 European Golden Shoe award are fading after Liverpool’s defeat to Brighton in the 37th round of the English Premier League, with Salah failing to score any goals.

Liverpool lost to Brighton 3-2 in the match held at the Amex Stadium, home of the Seagulls.

Harvey Elliott and Szoboszlai scored for Liverpool, while Salah failed to score for the third consecutive match.

Salah’s tally in the European Golden Shoe race thus stands at 56 points, placing him third behind Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, who is second with 58 points.

Swedish striker Victor Gyokkeris, Sporting Lisbon’s top scorer, leads the standings with 58.5 points.

However, both Salah and Mbappé still have a chance to compete for the European Golden Shoe, with each having one match remaining, unlike Swede Gyokkeris, who ended his Portuguese league season with 39 goals.

Players from the five major European leagues (English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German) will receive two points for each goal, while players from the other leagues will receive 1.5 points.

The Golden Shoe’s top scorers:

  • Victor Gjokeres, Lisbon: 39 goals, 58.5 points
  • Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid: 29 goals, 58 points
  • Mohamed Salah, Liverpool: 28 goals, 56 points
  • Harry Kane, Bayern Munich: 26 goals, 52 points
  • Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona: 25 goals, 50 points
