Courts appoint tax evasion committee for CBC owner

Attorney General Mohamed Khalifa has tasked a tax evasion committee with inspecting the due diligence of Mohamed al-Amin, owner of the CBC satellite channel, as the media mogul stands accused of evading taxes on some LE2 billion made in profits.

The due taxes are reportedly worth LE427 million, which Amin is accused of not including in his tax reports between 2008 and 2010.

Amin allegedly made the illegal profits by selling his shares in Amer Group.

Egypt's finance minister has approved the lawsuit against Amin, while the prosecutor general ordered a travel ban for him, after President Mohamed Morsy pointed Amin out in his divisive Wednesday speech.
