Statistics from the internet search engine Google have recorded a dramatic increase in search rates for "ElBaradei", former president of the IAEA, among Egyptian internet users.

Search rates for "ElBaradei" increased during the period of 17-21 February, registering 100 points on Google's "increased interest" scale, compared to only eight points two days before ElBaradei's arrival in Cairo.

Google searches for potential candidates for the presidency outnumbered those for President Mubarak.

In related news, membership of the Facebook group "ElBaradei for the Presidency of Egypt 2011" topped 100,000 members this morning.

Members of the National Democratic Party allegedly attacked ElBaradei on the Facebook group, and started posting "obscene" pictures on the group page, pushing group administrators to warn violating members that they will be removed from the group.
