The European Commission announced on Thursday the allocation of 10 million euros to improve the water and sanitation networks in Egypt to serve more than 15 million citizens.

Stefan Füle, head of the European Neighbourhood Policy Enlargement Commission, in press statements said the amount represents the first installment of a total of 303 million euros allocated by European financial institutions for that purpose.

“The project [is intended to] provide good quality drinking water for 95 percent of the urban areas and 40 percent of the rural areas of Assiut, Minya, Qena and Sohag,” Füle said.
