A forensic report on Om Abdel Nabi Ghoneim, 70, claims that the cause of her death was age-related, although local residents believe she passed away after being poisoned by drinking contaminated water in the village of Sansaft in Monufiya.

Public prosecutors are continuing an investigation into the poisoning of an estimated 1,000 citizens in the village, or possibly more, who fell ill after drinking contaminated water. The prosecution summoned Seddiqa Mostafa, the director of the central laboratories in Monufiya, to ask her if water quality control procedures were carried out in the Sansaft station.

According to Mostafa, the role of the laboratories is limited to testing the water. Results of the investigation suggest that the water and sewage company had not taken the appropriate preventive measures when water samples from a local well did not pass health and safety measures and were found to be unfit for human consumption.
