The Supreme Judicial Council and the Judges Club issued a joint statement on Wednesday calling on Prosecutor General Talaat Abdallah to resign and return to working as a judge.

Last Thursday, Abdallah withdrew the resignation he had submitted to the SJC a few days before.

Abdallah, who was appointed by President Mohamed Morsy in November, initally stepped down after hundreds of members of the prosecution rallied before his office calling for his resignation.

The council’s board, which includes prosecution heads and deputies, had called for an urgent meeting to discuss Abdallah’s decision to withdraw his resignation.
