Morsy supporters rally at Cairo University

Dozens of supporters of President Mohamed Morsy have continued their sit-in at Cairo University near al-Nahda Square in Giza to defend the legitimacy of Morsy as Egypt's elected president.

Thousands of supporters announced a sit-in late Monday evening at the square to defend Morsy's legitimacy chanting "Islamic, Islamic."

Protesters called for massive marches to descend on the square to back the beleaguered Morsy, Egypt's first civilian elected president. State-run news agency MENA reported Tuesday that marches began to arrive in the square Tuesday morning.

The Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Jusitice Party leader Mohamed al-Beltagy called on the armed forces to protect pro-Morsy protesters from the threat of thug violence.

Beltagy said on his Facebook page that the army must defend demonstrators taking to the streets to defend presidential legitimacy.
