Nakhnoukh detained, banned from travel in new charges

High-ranking investigation magistrate Ahmed Idris on Tuesday ordered the detention of Sabri Nakhnoukh for 15 days pending investigation, amid fresh charges the controversial figure had stolen land.

Nakhnoukh, who has faced a spate of charges since last year, stands accused of illegally seizing 3,000 square metres of land in Kafr El-Sheikh.

Idris also slapped Nakhnoukh with a travel ban during sentencing.

In May, Alexandria's Criminal Court sentenced Nakhnoukh to 28 years in prison for possession of drugs and unlicensed firearms.

Mohamed al-Beltagy, a leading Muslim Brotherhood figure, claimed Nakhnoukh was deployed by the former regime to kill protesters during the January revolution.
