Protesters for and against Morsy gather in Alexandria

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Alexandria on Tuesday to reject the referendum on the draft constitution, scheduled Saturday, 15 December.

Demonstrators in front of the Haqaniya Court raised the Egyptian flag and banners reading, “No to the constitution,” “We reject the supreme guide’s constitution,” and “No to ‘brotherhoodizing’ the state.”

They also chanted, “I am not an infidel, I am not an atheist, down with the rule of the supreme guide,” “The people want to overthrow the Muslim Brotherhood,” and “Leave, leave.”

Meanwhile, supporters of President Mohamed Morsy rallied in the Sidi Gaber area in front of the Northern Military Command, among them residents of Beheira and Kafr al-Zayat who had been bussed in.

Opposition movements called for mass protests on Tuesday in different governorates as well as marches to the presidential palace against the constitutional referendum, while Islamists called for rallies encouraging people to approve the draft.
