Protesters attacked in Tanta train en route to Mansoura

Unknown assailants attacked dozens of protesters in Tanta on Monday evening.

The protesters had just boarded a train at Samanoud Station en route to Mansoura to show support for protesters there. Mansoura residents have been demonstrating for the past week. Violence there escalated when a police vehicle ran over and killed one of the protesters on Friday.

As the Tanta demonstrators boarded their train, some chanted slogans against the Muslim Brotherhood, which certain passengers objected too, said Popular Current member Hassan Khalil.

Around 20 individuals boarded the train at the same station and assaulted the opposition protesters, beating them and dragging them off the train. Four were injured, one of whom is in critical condition, Khalil said. They were transferred to the Samanoud Hospital for treatment.

Violent clashes reportedly renewed Monday evening between protesters and security forces in Mansoura in front of the governorate headquarters and the security directorate building.
