Egyptian rights groups on Tuesday submitted a report to the general prosecutor demanding the release of eight activists arrested during a Coptic rally in Shubra district protesting Saturday’s attack on an Alexandria church.
Egyptians against Discrimination, Egyptians in One Country, al-Hilali Institution for Freedoms, the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights, and Egypt’s Protesters Defence Front were among the groups that submitted the report.
The report said the Minister of Interior Affairs Habib al-Adly and Interior Minister Assistant Ismael al-Shaer were responsible for the activists’ detention.
Report described the activists as “forcibly kidnapped with their lives in danger.”
The Youth for Justice and Freedom Movement organized a protest before the general prosecutor’s office calling for the detainees’ release.
Office guards prevented an Al-Masry Al-Youm photographer from shooting photographs of the protest. The assistant to the general prosecutor said that photographing the general prosecutor's office is banned.
