The US Embassy in Cairo has said it will suspend all its services on Tuesday due to the current security situation around the premises.

The Embassy said on Twitter that all services including the issuing of visas will be suspended. Emergency services for US nationals in Egypt will however still be available.

In the days before the anniversary of the revolution, the Embassy issued a statement on its website urging US citizens to “avoid areas where large gatherings may occur,” warning, “Even demonstrations or events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.”

The statement, however, said, “There is no indication that demonstrations will express anti-American sentiment or be directed at US diplomatic facilities this weekend.”

The Embassy, located in Garden City, is close to Qasr al-Nil Bridge where confrontations have been taking place. It was opened on Monday, after being closed on Sunday.
