Magdi Amin, executive director of the General Authority for Reconstruction Projects and Agricultural Development, said on Monday that The United Arab Emirates offered LE3 billion to finance a huge agricultural project to reclaim some 200,000 acres in the Western Desert.
The armed forces is to build the infrastructure, while the ministries of agriculture, irrigation, housing, electricity, and transportation would prepare the ground and water maps for the electricity and transport networks, all to come under next year’s investment plan.
Amin added that The UAE is also willing to finance any agricultural projects that would reduce the waste of crops during production and trading, which is estimated at LE5 billion.
“We are looking at the Paris, Farafra and Balat areas in the New Valley Governorate to implement the project,” he said, adding that the land would not be offered to projects that need high consumption of water for irrigation.
