An electricity outage occured again on Wednesday as the National Energy Control Centre (NECC) reduced the loads of around 650 megawatts due to shortage of fuel and some of the electricity stations were undergoing the annual maintenance.
In its daily bulletin, the ministry said that the maximum load on Thursday reached 22,700 megawatts. The ministry also called on citizens to rationalize consumption to avoid power cuts.
Cities and villages of Qena saw power outage after six days of regular service. Residents bought flashlights and emergency lamps while merchants raised their prices due to the high demand, locals said.
Mohamed Abdel Fattah, a teacher, said a power outage took place again, despite it not even being summer. “How is it going to be in summer?” he wondered.
Mohamed Mahmoud, another resident, said mosques resorted to electricity generators to overcome the crisis.
