The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned of soaring temperatures on Thursday, marking the second peak of the heatwave striking the country.
Despite the temporary improvement in weather conditions over the past few days a return to very hot weather is expected, accompanied by relatively high humidity.
A significant, sudden rise in temperatures is expected on Thursday, approaching 40C in Greater Cairo.
Winds will be active, particularly over the Delta and Greater Cairo, with occasional strong gusts during the afternoon and early evening hours. These gusts may stir up dust and sand during periods of higher wind activity.
The early evening wind activity will signal the end of the heatwave, resulting in pleasant and mild weather from midnight until late evening.
A significant drop in temperatures is expected on Friday and Saturday, forecast to return to the low 30s Celsius by Saturday.
However, the heatwave is expected to intensify again on Sunday and Monday.
The EMA’s advice for citizens:
- Avoid direct sun exposure, especially during midday from 12 PM to 4 PM.
- Drink plenty of water and fluids to stay hydrated.
- Wear light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothing.
- Do not leave children or the elderly inside closed cars.
- Wear a hat or use an umbrella when going out during the day.
- Avoid strenuous physical activity during the hottest hours.
- Stay updated on weather forecasts to be aware of any sudden changes in the weather.
