Activists launched a website on the internet called the ‘Sisi meter’ to monitor the performance of president-elect Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who according to preliminary results won in the presidential elections against his rival Hamdeen Sabbahi.
The website launching is similar to what activists did after the election of toppled President Mohamed Morsy in 2012. The website was called the ‘Morsy meter’ and followed his performance during the 100 days of his rule.
The ‘Sisi meter’ founders said the idea was taken from the ‘Morsy meter’ website, adding that it is widely known that Sisi did not make any specific promises and that he also did not announce a timeline that he could be held accountable to. However, a wide segment of Egyptians have high aspirations from Sisi's rule, they added.
The founders said that their website accepts proposals and demands expected from the new president. After that they will be put up for voting starting from the date he officially enters office until the end of his tenure so that it becomes a meter for his accomplishments, they said.
According to the Morsy meter website, Morsy promised promotions and bonuses for policemen during the first 100 days of his rule, which was the only promise achieved out of 17 regarding security issues. He also carried out two promises of 21 related to traffic, three out of 13 related to the bread system, three out of eight related to cleaning and one out of five related to fuel.
