Appeal on People’s Assembly elections results adjourned to 15 October

The Supreme Administrative Court at the State Council Saturday postponed until 15 October considering a lawsuit related to the People's Assembly elections, which the Supreme Constitutional Court dissolved.

Anwar Sobhi Darwish, a former candidate for the People’s Assembly, had filed a lawsuit before the Administrative Court in Banha, Qaliubiya, in February demanding that the results of parliamentary elections in Qaliubiya be overturned.

The court ruled to halt the announcement of election results in the constituency and the case was referred to the Supreme Administrative Court, which referred it to the Supreme Constitutional Court the same month to clarify the plaintiff’s argument for the invalidity of some of the articles of elections law.

The plaintiff said the lawsuit rejects holding the re-runoff election for the individual seat in the constituency between candidates from the Freedom and Justice Party and the Nour Party, since both candidates represented parties and the seat was dedicated for independent candidates.

The Supreme Constitutional Court had ruled the People's Assembly elections invalid on 14 June, because it allowed for the candidates belonging to parties compete against independent candidates for the seats reserved for independents.
