Beni Suef teacher interrogated for requesting to write “overthrow the regime” in exam

The Education Directorate of Beni Suef referred an art teacher for investigation Saturday after creating an exam question which some found objectionable.

Magda Fawzi, a teacher at Foh Middle School in Wasta City, reportedly created an exam question requesting that students paint an Egyptian flag with the phrase "the people want to bring down the regime," which some students objected to, according to Basiona Soror, undersecretary of the Beni Suef Education Ministry.

Mouawad Tawfik, head of the Wasta City Education Directorate, held an urgent meeting with art teachers in the school and ordered teachers to withdraw the question and tell students to design the flag without writing the phrase.

Fawzi told Al-Masry Al-Youm that she handed out the exam for printing and photocopying and had not written the phrase in dispute, and that the question had only requested that students paint the Egyptian flag.
