Blocked on Election Day, Brotherhood websites back online

Muslim Brotherhood (MB) websites began working again Monday evening after having been inaccessible for two days. The MB is the second largest opposition group to have competed in Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

The group’s websites became inaccessible within an hour before the opening of polling stations. The group accuses the Egyptian government of vote rigging.

On Sunday morning, media websites reporting incidents of Brotherhood supporters being harassed were no longer accessible from within Egypt.

The group announced that unnamed sources had tampered with the websites. MB website officials said they faced difficulties when attempting to switch to substitute websites they had previously established.

Several Brotherhood websites, including ikhwanonline.com, published news of electoral violations. The abuses published included arrests of its members and measures preventing the group’s supporters and representatives from accessing polling stations.
