Businessmen offer Egypt govt compensation for corrupt land deals

Judicial sources said certain businessmen, who were given state-owned land by government officials for artificially low prices in violation of the law, offered to pay the government the difference between the price they paid and the real value of the land.

But the state prosecution ordered that those businessmen be summoned in person to investigate them.

The sources said the attorney general is considering such offers in order to protect the economy and the thousands who work in projects initiated by the businessmen on the land.

They estimated the price difference at LE8 billion.
