Cairo University dismisses former minister, others

Cairo University began applying the new civil service law on Thursday, dismissing several Muslim Brotherhood leaders who had been sentenced in criminal cases.
 
Cairo University President Gaber Nassar decided to dismiss the former Food Supply Minister, Bassem Ouda, a teacher at Faculty of Engineering, as well as Muslim Brotherhood's Salah Sultan, professor at Dar Olum faculty. The university also dismissed Mostafa Qotb, currently outside Egypt, for working for a foreign authority without permission from the university, in addition to being absent from work.
 
Fathy Abbas, media adviser to the university president, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the university applies the regulations to everyone and that any faculty member or a university worker, either affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood or not, who has been convicted, will be dismissed in accordance with the new law.
 
Nassar also decided not to disburse the salary to Ahmed Mohamed Fathy, a faculty member of Dar Olum, for practising physiotherapy alongside his work in the university
 
The university has clarified that Fathy counterfeited official documents in order to seize public money. Nassar’s decision also included referring the issue to the prosecution.
