Court and public prosecution workers end strike

Members of the General Union of Court and Public Prosecution Workers have ended their strike in order to “preserve the interests of the country,” as they put it.

Justice Minister Adel Abdel Hamid, in a meeting with the union on Thursday, said the ministry is keen on improving financial conditions for the workers, in recognition of their pivotal role in the judicial system.

He also said that the Finance Ministry agreed to support the Justice Ministry with LE35 million, of which LE3 million would go to the workers’ health care and social security funds.

The workers had gone on strike in several Egyptian governorates for two days to demand better wages and working conditions, halting the work of the courts.
