Egypt, Swiss company TCG sign waste-to-energy agreement

The Egyptian government on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Swiss company TCG to cooperate within the waste-to-energy technology field.

Egypt’s Minister of Military Production Mohamed al-Assar, Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Sharawi and Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad attended the signing ceremony.

A statement by the Ministry of Military Production said that this agreement with the Swiss company comes in light of the government’s interest in developing a waste management system to improve the environmental, health and living conditions of Egyptian citizens and achieve economic return.

This memorandum aims to cooperate between the military production ministry and TCG to establish factories which will convert waste to energy, so that this waste is processed to generate energy in any form, such as electrical power or thermal energy.

The statement stressed the Ministry of Military Production’s strategy of cooperation with international companies aims to transfer and localize modern technologies, in various fields of manufacturing within the affiliated companies and units.

It also seeks to deepen domestic manufacturing, increase added value, reduce imports and provide foreign currency in order to strengthen the national economy.

The Environment Minister expressed her confidence in the ability of the military production companies to take advantage of Swiss technology used in recycling waste, alongside the transferring the latest technology in the industry to its companies and units.

This alongside training technical manpower to serve and raise the efficiency of waste recycling plants deployed through the country, adding to the success of the national waste management system.

For his part, TCG’s CEO Robert I Hargitai stressed his company’s interest in cooperating with the Ministry of Military Production, due to the availability of its technology, manufacturing, research, personnel and infrastructure, in addition to its participation in Egypt’s many developmental projects.

He added that he was confident in the success of joint cooperation projects that serve both sides in converting waste to energy, especially as TCG is working in the implementation of environmental energy projects based on advanced technology systems.
