Egyptian jihadi not involved in US ambassador’s death, says Zawahiri

Mohamed al-Zawahiri, a leading figure in the Jihadi Salafi movement, on Thursday spoke out against the US-based Wall Street Journal’s reportage linking the Islamic militant figure Mohamed Gamal Abu Ahmed to the bombing of the US Consulate in Benghazi two weeks ago.

US ambassador Chris Stevens was killed in the attack, which coincided with demonstrations across the region against a film produced in the US that was deemed offensive to Islam

Zawahiri said Jihadi Salafism is a global movement that is not related to any acts of violence. Abu Ahmed is innocent of all charges, he claimed, and there is no evidence proving otherwise.

The United States is trying to drive a wedge between the movement and President Mohamed Morsy, Zawahiri claimed.
