Egypt’s Homeland Security kills six militants in New Valley

Egypt’s Homeland Security Service killed on Tuesday six militants upon receiving information that a militant hotbed was camping in Beheira Oasis of New Valley governorate.

After an exchange of fire, police seized four machine guns, two firearms, and a quantity of bullets carried by the individuals in the camp.

The suspects lived in a tent surrounded by raised land in the desert of Beheira Oasis.

Police filed a report on the incident and referred it to the prosecution for investigations.

Since 2014, Egypt has witnessed a growing number of terrorist attacks carried out mostly in North Sinai though sometimes in other governorates, including various attacks on the army and the police.

This increase in terrorism followed the ouster of the late President Mohamed Morsi. Morsi’s party was affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, which Egypt subsequently banned as a terrorist group.
