Environment Minister: Natural reserves are not for sale

Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy has denied the rumors about the government's alleged intention to sell natural reserves. “Natural reserves are not for sale,” he said, pointing out that it is possible to grant usufruct contracts for certain companies to manage natural reserves.

He called for changing the concept of protecting natural reserves to making use of them, especially that they represent 15 percent of Egypt’s total area.

“We should emulate South Africa’s endeavors in this regard,” he said.
